Isn’t the Deliberate Killing of UNIFIL Forces a Violation of Human Rights?

The Sunday terror attack on UNIFL forces in Southern Lebanon has been met by unfortunate silence on the part of leading human rights advocates. An NGO Monitor search of the websites of influential NGOs, Human Rights Watch (HRW), Amnesty International, the International Federation of Human Rights (Paris) (FIDH) and Christian Aid (UK) has not found any condemnation of the attack that killed six Spanish and Columbian UN peace keepers.

The UN Security Council and General Secretary Ban Ki-moon condemned the attack. The American Jewish Committee expressed its “deepest condolences to the governments of Colombia and Spain, the United Nations and the aggrieved families.” The protectors of human rights, however, have run out of condemnations.

During last summer’s war between Israel and Hezbollah there was no shortage of reports of Israeli activities that were said “gross” and “systematic” violations of international law. Many of those reports were shown by NGO Monitor to be unfounded. In this instance, a clear violation of human rights has occurred - namely the murder of UN mandated peace keepers.

In order to be legitimate human rights defenders, NGO Monitor encourages the NGOs mentioned above to publicly condemn in the strongest sense the attack on UNIFL forces in Southern Lebanon. The lack of such a condemnation only furthers the appearance of bias and political agenda.

  1. Funny thing is, that even Hezbullah condemned the attack.

  2. Those NGOs are shills for Islam, trying to con world opinion that the enemy in Lebanon is not the same as the enemy killing Jews on buses and teenagers at the mall , and that the enemy in Lebanon is not the same enemy that blew up London’s rail stations and that used planes as missiles to destroy the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon. It’s obvious how clueless those NGOs are when, for example, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East and North Africa Division, Sarah Leah Whitson’s letter to “Dear President Ahmadinejad” began with, “We [at HRW] are aware that you have recently expressed great concern about the current fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, citing in particular the large numbers of Lebanese civilian victims of this conflict.” HRW believes that Ahmadinejad can be reasoned with. Ms. Whitson seems unaware Ahmadinejad has repeatedly characterized Israel as a loathsome “tumor” which “must be wiped off the map” of the planet earth.
