Gisha’s Gaza video: Lots of cliches and politics, no law

‘Waltz with Bashir’ animator draws Gaza, Jerusalem Post, March 4, 2009

In terms of content (not aesthetic value), Gisha’s video is worth very little. It is a visual representation of tired cliches — Gazans as “caged birds” — and inaccurate depictions of the conflict — not one Hamas terrorist. We are given a narrative of 1 meager rocket fired anonymously from Gaza (no terrorists in sight) and the disproportionate response from Israel THAT SEEMS TO BE TARGETING AN INNOCENT CHILD. This is simply incomplete, highly distorted, and achieves a victory of sorts for the terrorists who use the civilian population of Gaza as a gigantic human shield.

And what about the residents of Sderot and the South? Do they factor into Gisha’s equation?

Contrary to Sari Bashi’s statement to the Jerusalem Post, Israel’s closure of Gaza is NOT ILLEGAL! Freedom of Movement is not an absolute right, and it can be restricted “to protect national security, public order, public health or morals, or the rights and freedoms of others” [Article 12, Sec. 3 of ICCPR].

Perhaps Gisha should invest British governmental funding (see the end of the video) for something other than a PR war against Israel.
