Birthright Unplugged: Hijacking a name, plugging into anti-Israel campaigning
Birthright Unplugged–partnered with a number of radical NGOs, some of which receive EU funding—advances an extreme anti-Israel narrative via its “alternative” tours. It is not affiliated with the Taglit-Birthright Israel group; in fact, Birthright Unplugged has hijacked Taglit-Birthright’s name in order to advance a radically different, anti-Israel agenda.
Birthright Unplugged tour groups meet with officials from the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), ICHAD, and Allegra Pacheco from UN OCHA, and receive materials from the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department, and BADIL. The goal is to deny the legitimacy of Israel and of “the concept of a birthright for Jewish people in this land that Palestinians were displaced from.” On this basis, Birthright Unplugged prepares the small number of participants as “Palestinian solidarity” activists and to promote boycotts and demonization in the media, universities and other venues.
NGO Monitor has published a detail report on Birthright Unplugged, which can be viewed here.
